From Iceland — No Icesave Discussions on the Horizon

No Icesave Discussions on the Horizon

Miniser of Finance Steingrímur J. Sigfússon told reporters that further discussions on Icesave could be months away.
Speaking with Vísir, Steingrímur cited both upcoming elections in the UK and Holland, as well as deepening economic troubles across the European continent.
No official talks between Iceland, Britain and the Netherlands over Icesave have occurred since a national referendum in March defeated the previous deal.
Steingrímur told reporters that as there is uncertainty regarding who will be in power after elections in the UK and Holland, Icesave talks aren’t planned any time soon. Even after elections, there will of course be a period of time where both countries will need to sort out their ministerial positions and orgnaize their governments.
Furthermore, he added, worsening economic conditions in Greece could have residual effects on the rest of the continent, especially with regards to interest rates.
For the moment, further talks on Icesave will have to wait until the dust has settled on the continent.
