From Iceland — No Commercials During Children's Time

No Commercials During Children’s Time

Published March 25, 2009

The state broadcasting system has decided to end the airing of
commercials on television during the time of day when children are most likely to be watching.
This period of time will include Saturdays and Sundays, and from 18:00 in the evening onwards.
The state has already been trying to keep children away from advertising in other areas of daily life, such as new rules that ask that candy, soda and chippage not be sold near cash
registers, and that junk food in general not be within the viewing area
of children. The regulations have also asked that no advertisements for
junk food appear on television during hours when children are most
likely to be watching TV.
