Icelandic Minister of Foreign Affairs Össur Skarphéðinsson met with Russia‘s deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov yesterday in Iceland.
The two met to discuss bilateral co-operation on fishing, trade, energy and cultural issues, as well as Arctic affairs. Iceland and Russia have good relations in the area of fishing and North-Atlantic management, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Last October, Icelandic fishing vessels were granted rights in Russian waters with a quota of up to 5.500 tonnes.
The two countries also cooperate in the field of energy, particularly in utilizing geothermal energy resources in the Kamchatka Peninsula. Vladimir visited the Hellisheiði power station following his meeting with Össur.
In addition to meeting with Össur, Vladimir met with Iceland‘s permanent Secretary of State Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson and other officials from Iceland‘s Foreign Ministry.
