From Iceland — New Bank Note Coming Soon

New Bank Note Coming Soon

Published February 18, 2013

A new 10 thousand krónur bank note has been designed and will be put into circulation this year. Central Bank Governor Már Guðmundsson announced that the new notes will be released as early as this spring, coinciding with the return of the plover – the bird adorning the new bills – to Iceland, RÚV reports.
It is said that the plover (“lóan” in Icelandic) brings with it the new summer. So perhaps the introduction of the new bill featuring the bird will signal the arrival of a new season for Icelandic finances.
The note will also feature Jónas Hallgrímsson, noted Icelandic poet and naturalist.
