New Ambassador to Iceland Nominated

Published April 23, 2010

The White House has issued a press release stating that US president Barack Obama has nominated Luis Arreaga as the next ambassador to Iceland.
There is no precise date on his arrival, as he still needs to testify before and be confirmed by the Senate, but Acting Deputy Chief of Mission/Public Affairs Officer Kathy Eagen of the US embassy in Iceland said that they hope for a speedy process.
On the same day, Obama also announced that he was nominating Rose M. Likins to be US ambassador to Peru, and Jonathan Woodson for Assistant Secretary of Defense. “I am confident that these skilled and dedicated individuals will be tremendous assets to my administration as we continue the important work of the American people. I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come,” Obama said of the nominees.
Luis Arreaga is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, and has worked previously with the US State Department in Panama, Spain, Peru, El Salvador and Honduras.
