From Iceland — Naming Committee Approves New Names

Naming Committee Approves New Names

Published September 12, 2011

The Icelandic Naming Committee announced a new set of approved names this morning.
Males can now be called Þinur (meaning fir, not to be confused with þunur, meaning hangover), Dúnn (down, as in a down comforter) and Laugi.
Females can be called Vagnfríður (the combination of fair and carriage), Elly (without the accent over the y), and Jovina (which had been previously rejected by the Committee).
At the same time, The Committee rejected the proposed middle name, Einars.
As we have reported in the past, names in Iceland must be approved by a Naming Committee. Read about how The Committee works here.
