From Iceland — Motorcycle Club Seeks Damages for Wrongful Arrest

Motorcycle Club Seeks Damages for Wrongful Arrest

Published April 7, 2010

Seven members of the motorcycle club Fáfnir are seeking damages totalling 4.2 million ISK for a wrongful arrest that took place in July 2007.
At that time, police raided their former clubhouse in midtown Reykjavík, arresting everyone. They were later released without charges.
Seven of these men are now seeking 600,000 ISK in damages, each. One member of the group already won a 150,000 ISK judgement for wrongful arrest, Vísir reports, so it’s likely the others will do well in Reykjavík District Court.
Fáfnir has had run-ins with the law on a few occassions, not least of all for inviting the Hell’s Angels to Iceland. Minister of Justice Ragna Árnadóttir wants to see the club banned. Fáfnir are currently based in Hafnarfjörður.
