From Iceland — Man With Handgun Turns Out To Be Actor

Man With Handgun Turns Out To Be Actor

Published May 25, 2012

Police responding to a report of a man armed with a gun arrived on the scene to find a much different story.
Capital area police received an emergency call last Wednesday, RÚV reports, that there was a man with a handgun walking freely about a residential neighbourhood. Officers quickly dispatched to the scene, ready for the worst.
The suspect was soon found and apprehended. However, the gun he was carrying turned out to be a toy. When asked why he was carrying a toy gun, he said he intended to use it as a prop for a scene in a short film. The man was released without charges.
Gun violence is, in general, rare in Iceland, but a recent scare over motorcycle gangs – and the shooting out of a car allegedly connected to them – has increased police vigilance about guns.
