From Iceland — Man In The Middle Of FBI Scandal Speaks To Parliament

Man In The Middle Of FBI Scandal Speaks To Parliament

Published February 21, 2013

Sigurður Ingi Þórðarson, the young man who, in 2011, was questioned by the FBI during their secretive and unauthorized visit to Iceland, was in Alþingi this morning to speak with the Committee on Education and General Affairs. Sigurður, who has been bestowed the moniker ‘Siggi Hacker’* by Icelandic media, appears to have been acting as an FBI informant at the time of his speaking to the organisation in 2011, Vísir reports.
While in 2011, when Sigurður was just 18-years-old, the FBI had claimed to be in Iceland questioning him after he had tipped off the U.S. organisation about an imminent attack on government computers. This claim has long been rejected by Minister of the Interior Ögmundur Jónasson, who contended that the FBI was using the story of a computer attack as a cover to be in Iceland investigating Wikileaks.
In Alþingi this morning, Sigurður shed more light on the situation, confirming that the FBI was questioning him about Wikileaks. Little more is known about Sigurður’s testimonial to the committee this morning, however, as the young man, flanked by two privately-hired body guards, refused to respond to questions posed by the press.
