Only 38% of Icelandic voters say they are pleased with the work Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson has been doing. Support varied widely, though, by party affiliation.
Vísir reports that, according to the results of a poll conducted by television station Stöð 2 and the newspaper Fréttablaðið, only 38% of those polled said they were very pleased or rather pleased with the work the Prime Minister is doing. 31% said they believed he was doing rather poorly or very poorly, and 10% either refused to answer the question or had no position on the matter.
Taken by party affiliation, this support varied a great deal. Those showing the most support hailed from the Prime Minister’s party, the Progressives, with 84% saying they believe his performance has been above par and only 9% expressing displeasure with his work. Amongst supporters of the Independence Party, which shares the ruling coalition with the Progressives, 64% expressed support for the PM’s performance, whilst only 8% were displeased.
Voters for parties in the opposition, whilst mostly displeased with the PM, varied significantly in their outlooks.
Amongst Bright Future voters, 13% said they believe he has been doing well, while 54% said they believe he has been doing poorly. At the same time, 17% of Social Democrats support the PM’s performance, whilst 56% were unhappy. 18% of Pirates also said they were pleased with the PM, whilst about half were dissatisfied. Most surprisingly, 25% of Left-Greens voters said they felt the Prime Minister has been doing well, whilst 59% believe he has been doing poorly.
