From Iceland — MPs Encouraged to Sign Online Oath

MPs Encouraged to Sign Online Oath

Published January 27, 2010

A new website serves the dual purpose of encouraging MPs to sign an online oath, and gathering signatures for a petition encouraging MPs to sign the oath.
Thus far, about 1,400 people have signed the petition, and five MPs have signed the oath. The oath itself states, among other things, that as an elected representative, the undersigned will put the interests of the people before the interests of their own party, judge the opinions of others on their own merits, regardless of party affiliation, and that they will be ready to change their minds when new information comes up.
At the time of this writing, two MPs from The Movement, two Progressives, and one conservative have signed the oath.
The site can be seen here (in Icelandic).
