Icelandic Literary Prize Awarded Today

Published January 25, 2012

The Icelandic Literary Prize, the most prestigious prize for books in Iceland, was awarded today in the categories of literature and academic work.
The prize for literature went to Guðrún Eva Mínervudóttir, for her book ‘Allt með kossi vekur’ (“Everything Is Woken with a Kiss”), which is a novel that incorporates comics drawn by Sunna Sigurðardóttir. ‘Allt með kossi vekur’ is her sixth novel. Her book ‘Yosoy: Af líkamslistum og hugarvíli í hryllingsleikhúsinu við Álafoss’ (“Yosoy: Of Body Art and Delirium in the Theater of Horror near Álafoss”) received the DV Culture Prize in 2006.
The prize for academic work was awarded to Páll Björnsson, professor of modern studies at the University of Akureyri. His book, ‘Jón forseti allur? Táknmyndir þjóðhetju frá andláti til samtíðar’ (President Jón Departs? The Symbols of a National Hero from Death to Modern Times), is about how the image of Icelandic independence activist and politician Jón Sigurðsson has evolved since his death in 1879.
The Icelandic Literary Prize is sponsored by the Icelandic Publishers Association and was announced at Bessastaðir, the residency of the Icelandic president.
