Police say they are investigating accusations that a fish factory foreman has been charging immigrants large sums of money in order to work in Iceland.
MBL reports that Westfjords police are on the case and, in the words of Westfjords police chief Hlynur Hafberg Snorrason, investigations “are going just fine.”
As reported last month, a letter sent to the news site Bæjarins Bestu and the Ísafjörður police said that the foreman of a fish factory in Bolungarvík of charging them each 1,000 Euros for working there.
The letter was signed by 20 Poles, which also said that this has possibly been going on with the knowledge of the owners of the Jakob Valgeir ehf. fish company where they were employed.
Guðbjartur Flosason, the production manager of the company, denies the allegations, saying that the foreman in question was not responsible for hiring anyone, but simply helped others find work.
