Informational Literature For Foreign Women Living In Iceland

Published January 11, 2011

The Ministry of Welfare has compiled an information package for foreign women living in Iceland, detailing their rights in this country.
The literature, entitled Your Rights, details numerous aspects of daily life for foreign women in Iceland – from equal partnership, to financial matters, domestic violence, and available social programs.
The creation of this literature was funded in part by the European Union, the Development Fund for Immigrant Issues at the Ministry of Welfare, sex crime crisis centre Stígamót and the Office of Human Rights.
The information – available in English, Polish, Spanish, Thai, Russian and Arabic – can be found on the ministry’s website.
The rights of foreign women in Iceland has been a subject of growing attention. Last fall, a parliamentary proposal called upon a work group to be assembled and given the task of coming up with a way to better protect the rights of women from outside the European Economic Area who end up victims of spousal abuse.
