From Iceland — In Hospital After Drunk Riding

In Hospital After Drunk Riding

Published March 28, 2012

A man was taken to the hospital after falling from a horse, and police report he was heavily intoxicated.
According to the police report on the matter, a man in his thirties in the capital area fell from horseback, and needed to be transported to the hospital. It is not known at this time what the extend of his injuries were.
Police reported, though, that the rider in question was “dead drunk”. The suspect was not in the mood for assistance when police arrived at the scene, and police reportedly needed to use force in order to get the rider to the hospital.
The horse was not harmed in the incident, police also say, having endured only a brief scare before being taken back to the stables.
Drinking while riding, while not regarded as as serious an offence as drunk driving, is still against the law in Iceland. By Icelandic law, riding or attempting to ride a horse under the influence of alcohol or other depressants can result in a fine of up to 5,000 ISK.
