From Iceland — President of Iceland "Has Something To Hide"

President of Iceland “Has Something To Hide”

Supreme Court attorney Sveinn Andri Sveinsson believes Icelandic president Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson is being less than forthcoming.
The Parliamentary Investigative Committee recently requested 17 written correspondences the president made with one government official who recently resigned from office, and two other individuals. The president, in turn, submitted only eight. In his defense, he said that the unpublished letters in question were with high-standing government officials who are still in office, and that to publish these correspondences at this time would be to violate ethics laws in Iceland and neighboring countries.
Sveinsson, speaking to Icelandic radio station Bylgjan, said he has never heard of this supposed ethics rule, pointing out that the Prime Minister has released correspondences she made with Norwegian PM Jens Stoltenbergs without any problem.
In light of this, an opinion poll conducted by television station Stöð 2 showed that 29% of those responding believe the president should resign from office, while 62% said he should remain.
