From Iceland — Icelandic Special Effects Team Work On Remake

Icelandic Special Effects Team Work On Remake

Published January 13, 2012

A group of Icelanders have done all the special effects for a remake of Baltasar Kormákur’s Reykjavík Rotterdam.
The remake, entitled Contraband, will be coming out around the world this weekend, and was made by Universal Studios. While Hollywood is taking care of the broad strokes, Vísir reports that a team of Icelanders worked on the special effects for the film.
The company in question is actually a daughter company of global special effects giants Framestore. 25 Icelanders worked four months, creating effects such as explosions, crashes, and the tanker ship around which much of the plot revolves.
Daði Einarsson, the director of Framestore, told reporters that their goal was “to create that which isn’t possible to do in film, as realistically as possible.”
The Icelandic Framestore team has already done work on such film as Clash of the Titans, Salt, Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter.
