From Iceland — Icelandic Kids Watch More Porn

Icelandic Kids Watch More Porn

Published July 13, 2012

Icelandic kids watch more porn than kids in eight countries surveyed in new research.
RÚV reports that the University of Akureyri conducted research examining the online habits of children in ninth and tenth grade (around 15 and 16 years old). According to the research, Icelandic kids go online most often through their own laptops and smart phones, rather than using a desktop PC.
This creates a more private online experience, contends Kjartan Ólafsson, an assistant professor in the social sciences department. He says their research shows Icelandic kids are far more active in looking at internet porn than kids in other countries. Kjartan says that there could be many explanations for the difference, such as Icelandic children being more honest about their online habits than kids in other countries.
While many groups have sought to create a safer online environment for children, Kjartan says that the best way to go about this is through parental involvement. Parents should “concern themselves with what their children are doing, take part in it, and initiate the process themselves.”
