From Iceland — Icelandic Authorities Helped the FBI Shut Down Silk Road

Icelandic Authorities Helped the FBI Shut Down Silk Road

Police in Iceland helped the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) shut down the website Silk Road, the police report.
The popular “anonymous marketplace” was shut down by US authorities last week, leading to arrests that have stretched from America to Sweden.
The Silk Road was also hosted in Iceland. Unsurprisingly, Vísir reports, the Icelandic police had a hand in taking the site offline.
The police told reporters that they helped the FBI with their investigation by having “Silk Road taken down, and then seizing $3 million USD in Bitcoins”, the online currency used by traders on the website.
The Icelandic police said that they did not assist the FBI in any other form, and no arrests in Iceland were made in connection with Silk Road, as “no domestic parties were involved in running the site.”
FBI investigations of the site, its owners and its customers are still ongoing.
