From Iceland — Icelanders Trust Courts More than Government

Icelanders Trust Courts More than Government

Published October 22, 2009

More Icelanders trust the courts than they do the government, according to a new report from market research company MMR.
Specifically, 46.6% said they have a lot of trust in the Supreme Court, 42.3% said the same about the Ministry of Justice, as did 40.3% of the district courts. Only about 25% said that they do not trust these institutions.
Oddly enough, when the judicial system was presented as a whole, people actually trusted it less than the individual components – 36.5% said they trusted the courts in general, with about the same percentage saying they did not.
By contrast, only 21.9% said they trusted the government a great deal, with 18% saying the same about parliament. 54.8% said they trust the government very little, as did 52.4% say of parliament.
