A delegation from Iceland are going to Kulusuk tomorrow to deliver musical instruments, technical equipment and other gifts, RÚV reports.
The village in southeastern Greenland lost their local music hall in a fire in early March, which was the heart of the cultural life for the population of 400. It also housed most of the village’s musical equipment. Soon after the fire, benefactors and well-wishers here in Iceland began fundraising and gathering instruments to help replenish the community.
The fund raising efforts culminated with a large concert in Harpa and a total of 10 million ISK was raised, half from private donors and half from public funding.
A temporary music facility is currently being used in Kulusuk where the instruments and equipment from Iceland will be set up.
