Icelanders Arrested In Major Drug Operation

Published September 28, 2012

A drug operation spanning across Scandinavia has been brought to a close, leading to the arrest of eight Icelanders, one of whom coordinated the operation.
DV reports that at least eight Icelanders are in custody in Denmark and Norway, as is Guðmundur Ingi Þóroddsson, who is considered to be the one in charge of the business, and has been convicted of drug offenses in Iceland before.
While police were reticent to discuss the case, it is known that the smuggling operation spanned across Scandinavia, with a particularly high level of activity in Norway and Denmark. Police in Norway, Sweden and Denmark – in cooperation with Europol – helped bring the operation to an end.
The suspects in custody have all had run-ins with the law before over drug charges.
