From Iceland — Iceland to Attract Chinese Tourism

Iceland to Attract Chinese Tourism

Published February 17, 2010

Minister of Industry Katrín Júlíusdóttir intends to travel to China in June in the hopes of attracting more tourists to Iceland.
The minister will be traveling with a committee comprised of representatives from the tourist industry, in connection with the Expo 2010 games.
“It’s no secret that there is an ever-growing group of people there with more disposable income,” Júlíusdóttir told Vísir. “If we look just at tourism, there’s a great opportunity there, and there are more and more people traveling out of the country.”
She added that tourists from China tend to be very active abroad (i.e., they tend to spend a lot of money) and that many Chinese are high-end investors as well. For these reasons, she contends, it is important for Iceland and China to build a relationship.
