From Iceland — Iceland To Help Belarus Fight Human Trafficking

Iceland To Help Belarus Fight Human Trafficking

Published November 6, 2012

Iceland will be earmarking funds for combating human trafficking in Belarus, and for providing assistance to the mentally disabled in that country.
RÚV reports that Foreign Minister Össur Skarphéðinsson signed an agreement with Anna Stefánsdóttir, the director of the Red Cross in Iceland yesterday. The agreement would have Iceland donating 10 million ISK to the international office of the Red Cross and 20 million ISK to Belarus for a two-year project with a dual purpose:
One purpose would be to educate young people on the dangers of human trafficking and how to avoid it, while at the same time trying to bring victims of human trafficking back home and assimilate into society again.
The other purpose is to support an experimental project that would better assist the mentally ill in the cash-strapped east European nation.
