From Iceland — Iceland Named Best Adventure Travel Destination

Iceland Named Best Adventure Travel Destination

Published December 1, 2011

Iceland has won the prestigious honour of being named the Best Adventure Travel Destination by the Sunday Times Travel Magazine.
The award, granted to Iceland at the 2011 Sunday Times Travel Magazine Readers Awards, edged out Switzerland and Norway for the top position. Australia won the same category for countries outside of Europe. In particular, Iceland was named due to its unique landscapes and for the wide range of activities people can enjoy here year round.
The praise comes in the wake of similar accolades, such as receiving ‘Best in Travel’ in the annual Lonely Planet Reader’s Choice Awards and being included in National Geographic Traveller’s pick of the ‘Best of the World 2012.’
Sigga Groa of Promote Iceland said of the award: “We are delighted to have won the award and to be recognised for our fantastic adventure activities – particularly because these awards are based on public votes. This is a great end to a successful year for Iceland and we look forward to welcoming more Sunday Times Travel Magazine readers to our country in 2012.”
