Iceland Chosen Among Top Ten Countries To Visit

Published October 25, 2012

Iceland was selected by Lonely Planet as among 2013’s top ten countries to visit.
Lonely Planet, as many know, is a traveler-contributed guidebook publisher, but also provides a wealth of first-hand information through its website. Once a year, they select the top ten countries fellow travelers have recommended as must-see places to visit. As has been the case many times previous, Iceland has again made it into the top ten, specifically for the categories of “activities, off the beaten track, value for money”. In their own words:

Ask any tourist during your trip to Iceland and you’ll quickly see that everyone develops an unconditional love for the little island nation, whether it’s for the mind-bending scenery, the platefuls of delicious lamb and fish dishes, or the sincere local hospitality. The currency crash – which effectively devalued the króna by 75% – also helped make a trip much more favourable to the wallet. As the global economy starts to heal, prices are climbing once more. The spoils of Iceland are no longer a secret, but they’re still yours for the taking – and in 2013 you’ll still be well ahead of the curve.

Iceland won the Lonely Planet’s Reader’s Choice Award last year, with the country receiving 32% of the total vote, and Reykjavík in particular receiving 27%.
