Group Of Soldiers Training In Iceland For Antarctic Trek

Published March 18, 2013

A group of injured servicemen and women are currently partaking in training in Iceland in preparation for a 330 km trek into Antarctica later this year.
Three teams – Britons, Americans, and representatives of the Commonwealth (Canada and Australia) – are training on Langjökull to acclimatize themselves to the harsh conditions that they will face near the South Pole. Those training have all been afflicted with serious injuries while in combat, having either been shot, burned, involved in an explosion, or has lost limbs, The BBC reports.
The South Pole 2013 challenge, organised by the Walking With The Wounded charity, will raise awareness for wounded soldiers.
