GUMMI JÓNS – JAML

Published June 30, 2006

45 minutes or so of ho-hum acoustic guitar pop fiddled out to the steady beat of a drum machine, Jaml is a pleasant enough entry into the solo archives of Gummi Jóns, guitarist for local shitbag pop outfit Sálin Hans Jóns Míns. While it is infinitely superior to anything Sálin are doing today, this man should under absolutely no circumstances be allowed near a microphone again – EVER. It is, in full honesty, very difficult to decide which one is the ranker puddle of donkey piss, his voice or his lyrics. So what exactly is so great about this album? If someone else was singing, it could easily be just another of the dime-a-dozen lo-fi indie bands that seem to be cropping up everywhere of late. In-your-face, indie cockmunchers! All that effort and money spent on finding your own sound, and you can’t even beat Gummi Jóns!
