From Iceland — Found A Tarantula On The Bus

Found A Tarantula On The Bus

Published March 28, 2011

Of the various and sundry items other people leave on the city bus, only to be found by other passengers, poisonous insects are not among them. Until now.
Last Saturday, DV reports, 25-year-old Marcel Wojcik was taking the #6 bus downtown with his friends. Seating himself in the very rear seats of the bus, Wojcik said he found a tarantula on the seat, which appeared to be alive.
“One of my friends got up and went to talk to the driver,” Wojcik said. “He just offered to let us off the bus.”
Wojcik was nonetheless curious about the state of the animal, and so he scooped it up into a plastic box used for take-away food, making some holes in it. Wojcik said the tarantula was still moving a little by the time he got it home, but unfortunately, it passed away within half an hour.
“It’s as big as my hand, and I’m a 25-year-old man. I don’t have small hands,” he added. When asked if he believes someone had released the tarantula on the bus, he said, “It looks that way, but I don’t know. I think it’s so strange to find something like this on the bus.”
Tarantulas are not native to Iceland.
