From Iceland — Extends Sympathies To Japan

Extends Sympathies To Japan

Published March 15, 2011

The Icelandic parliament has made an official statement of sympathy and support to the Japanese people now dealing with the damage done by last week’s earthquake and tsunami.
Vísir reports that president of the Icelandic parliament Ásta R. Jóhannesdóttir sent a letter to the president of the Japanese Diet, Takahiro Yokomichi, extending Iceland’s condolences in this trying time.
According to a statement sent to the media, the letter “expressed admiration for the serenity that the Japanese people have demonstrated in the face of this tragedy from a natural disaster, and our hearts go out to everyone suffering in the aftermath.”
We at the Grapevine would also like to express our most sincere sympathies towards Japan, with the knowledge that this ancient country has weathered many a tragic event in its history, but has always come up stronger than ever before. We are left awestruck at how well coordinated efforts within Japan have been to come through this dark time, and hope for a speedy recovery for the nation.
