From Iceland — EU Membership Talks Start Tomorrow

EU Membership Talks Start Tomorrow

Published July 26, 2010

Minister of Foreign Affairs Össur Skarphéðinsson left for Brussels today to take part in the beginning of formal accession talks with European Union ministers.
The Federation of Icelandic Industries (SI) issued a statement praising the start of talks, saying in part, “Iceland’s membership in the EU and taking up the euro instead of the crown has been one of the most prominent positions of SI in the past few years.”
Sitting on the accession committee to meet Össur will be Belgian foreign minister Steven Vanackere, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle, and representatives of the main EU countries.
A press conference featuring Össur, Vanackere and Füle will be held at 10:00 Icelandic time, which you can watch live online both here and here.
