David Lynch Aims to Save Iceland with Meditation! YAY!

Academy Award nominated director David Lynch will be in Reykjavík May 1st through 3rd, speaking about Transcendental Meditation (TM) and its potential as a “solution to Iceland’s ills.” In a statement outlining Lynch’s intentions and the benefits of TM, the director notes “this project will transform the country— raising Iceland out of economic collapse and into an era of great good fortune.”
Through collaboration with Íslenska íhugunarfélagið, Lynch proposes offering TM instruction to the whole of Iceland’s population and establishing a group of 200 meditation experts to “raise national consciousness.” Lynch believes TM to be a cure for many problems inflicting present day Iceland, from the economic collapse to heart disease and high health-care costs.
TM is a meditation technique commonly practiced twice daily for twenty minutes at a time, repeating a mantra while seated with closed eyes. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, famous for his tutorage of and relationship with the Beatles, introduced the technique in 1958. Lynch has been practicing TM since 1973, and in 2005 launched the David Lynch Foundation to teach the meditation technique to teen-aged troubled youth interested in utilizing it to augment their lives.
Along with his foundation, Lynch has been working toward erecting seven buildings to house 8000 salaried expert meditators to pump peace into the world. The $7 billion project has been in development and fund raising stages for four years.
Lynch will hold a news conference to delineate his plan for TM in Iceland on Saturday, May 2nd at 10:30 at Ráðhúskaffi, followed at 14:00 by a free public forum featuring Lynch and other meditation experts at Háskólabíó. Lynch will also meet with leaders of business, government, health, education and the arts while in Reykjavík to speak with them about collaborating in fund raising projects to support TM in Iceland.
