Cup PM Drank From Sells For 105,000 ISK

A plastic cup that Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir drank from was auctioned off and sold for 105,000 ISK, with all proceeds going to charity.
Vîsir reports that the idea was the brainchild of Andri Freyr Viðarsson and Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir, the hosts of the radio show Virkra morgna on Rás 2.
The prime minister had used the cup this morning, while speaking on another show. “We often find a lot of trash around the microphone on the morning shift,” Andri said. “Including this fabulous plastic cup. We asked if the prime minister had indeed used this cup, and it turned out to be true.”
The pink of the prime minister’s lipstick is still quite visible on the brim, and even the water inside was a little bit pink. “It’s naturally a work of art,” Andri said.
The two hosts decided to auction the cup off, and a surprisingly heated round of bidding kicked off. In the end, the Visual Arts Centre in Akureyri placed the winning bid of 105,000 ISK and proudly displayed their prize on Facebook.
All the proceeds from the auction will be going to Umhyggju, a charity for children with chronic illness.
Andri added that Iceland’s famous should send the show their underwear for auctioning. “Preferably dirty underwear,” he said. “That should be popular.”
