Crazed Man Makes Daring Bank Robbery

Published May 27, 2009

A man using only brute strength was able to pry open the doors of a
bank last night and attempted to steal money before being arrested.
The suspect apparently approached the sliding doors of Kaupþing on Austurstræti last night and, using nothing more than his own strength, managed to pull the doors apart. Kaupþing spokesperson Berghildur Erla Bernharðsdóttir told Morgunblaðið, “It’s a traditional set of sliding doors but if the will to commit a crime is strong enough, it’s possible to get through any barrier.”
The suspect made his way into the bank and got to the counters, where he began to open rolls of 100 ISK coins and stuff them into his pockets, and also apparently went a bit nuts in vandalizing the inside of the bank. At this point, police arrived and took the suspect into custody. On his way to the station, he went into cardiac arrest. A policeman performed CPR, and was able to get a pulse as the suspect was sped to the emergency room. No word yet on what has become of the suspect, who was a sailor on a visiting ship.
