From Iceland — City Residents Will Have To Dispose Of Their Own Trees

City Residents Will Have To Dispose Of Their Own Trees

Published January 6, 2012

This year, people living in Reykjavík will have to take their Christmas trees to the dump themselves – the city will not be doing it for them.
As evidenced by the above photo, Christmas trees are often dropped off by the side of the road, or left stranded on the curb. Part of the reason for this is that pick up and disposal of such trees is often spotty at best.
Vísir now reports that just like last year, sanitation workers in Reykjavík will not be picking up old Christmas trees curbside. City residents are encouraged to take the trees to proper disposal units themselves.
However, for those without the means or desire to take old trees to Sorpa, numerous sports clubs will be offering the service, for little or possibly no fee. Such services can be found on the home pages of these sports clubs.
Further information can be found on the website of the Icelandic Forestry Association, under the heading “Tré fyrir tré”.
