From Iceland — "Broad Alliance" To Form

“Broad Alliance” To Form

Published January 4, 2012

A political party comprised of many smaller political parties appears to be approaching in the near future.
As reported, a party being formed by former Leftist-Green Lilja Mósesdóttir is currently in the making, and a sister party of the Best Party – formed by former Progressive Guðmundur Steingrímsson – has yet to decide on a name.
RÚV now reports that members of the Civic Movement, the Movement, the Liberal Party, as well as “sovereigntists” and those unaffiliated with any political party are currently in negotiations to form one large party.
Friðrik Þór Guðmundsson, chairman of the Civic Movement, told reporters that their main platform points will be a new constitution in harmony with the suggestions of the constitutional committee, protection for homes experiencing domestic debt, re-doing the fishing quota system and a general reorganisation of the political and economic structure of the country.
He said that the party will be formed very soon, and all will be welcome to join.
