From Iceland — Bobby Fischer To Be Exhumed

Bobby Fischer To Be Exhumed

Published April 1, 2010

The body of chess legend Bobby Fischer will soon be exhumed, in order to conduct a paternity test.
Chessbase.com reports that Marilyn Young, who claims to have been Fischer’s lover, recently arrived in Iceland with blood samples of her daughter, Jinky. She claims that Fischer is the father of this child, and wanted DNA samples of Fischer to prove it. However, no DNA samples of Fischer were found at the hospital where he died in 2008, so a judge ordered his body exhumed.
Young, as well as Fischer’s nephews and four-time Japanese women’s chess champion Miyoko Watai – who contends she married Fischer in 2004 – are all vying for $3 million in Philippine pesos and gold deposits Fischer left behind. He also owns a number of properties in Iceland.
Although the Supreme Court of Iceland invalidated Watai’s marriage claim on the grounds that she could not produce an original birth certificate, she contends she married Fischer, and is seeking the wealth he left behind.
