From Iceland — Björk Nominated for BRIT Award

Björk Nominated for BRIT Award

Published January 13, 2012

Nominations for the British Record Industry Trust (BRIT) Awards are out, and among them is Björk, whose album Biophilia made a critical splash last year.
Biophilia was exceptionally well-received in 2011. Supported by a daring live concept, among them a range of specially conceived and crafted instruments, such as a bespoke digitally-controlled pipe organ and a 30-foot pendulum that harnesses the Earth’s gravitational pull to create musical patterns, critics around the world have given the album glowing reviews.
Even Grapevine’s Bob Cluness was moved by the album, saying in part, “I find myself listening intently as Björk sings of different creation myths with a tune and vocals that seem almost hymnal. The chorus rises up and swoops around my brain, and… and… And I start to cry.”
Now Reuters reveals that the nominations for this year’s BRIT Awards – which show a surprising amount of focus on solo artists – name Björk among them. The artist has been nominated in the category of International Female Solo Artist, alongside Beyonce, Feist, Lady Gaga and Rihanna.
The BRIT Awards will be held this February 21.
