From Iceland — Best Party Polling with Clear Majority

Best Party Polling with Clear Majority

Published May 21, 2010

The Best Party – originally a parody party founded by comedian Jón Gnarr – is now polling with a clear majority in city hall, according to reports from Eyjan.is.
The poll, conducted by the newspaper Fréttablaðið and television station Stöð 2, show the Best Party currently polling at 42% – enough support to win eight of Reykjavík City Council’s 15 seats, eliminating the necessity for them to form a coalition with any other party. Last week, the Best Party was polling with 36% support, which was enough to equal six seats.
By contrast, the Independence Party is now reported to be polling low enough to gain only three seats, while the Social Democrats are polling with enough support to win three seats, and the Leftist-Greens are projected to win one. The Progressives will then lose their seat, and no other party running will gain one.
