Baby Born In Ambulance During Winter Storm Yesterday

Published March 7, 2013

While some of us spent yesterday griping about the cold temperatures, or cancelled/delayed buses or “ugh, I thought spring was supposed to be coming!” a Husavík couple was in the back of an ambulance, trying to make their way across impassable mountain roads to the hospital in Akureyri to deliver their baby boy, mbl.is reports.
The ambulance transporting Guðrún Sigríður Geirsdóttir and Guðbergur Rafn Ægisson was being escorted through the white-out conditions by a rescue team, whose stronger headlights could better spot the edges of either sides of the road. Still, the ambulance was forced to make several stops on route because visibility was so poor.
The impatient baby wouldn’t stay put and ended up making his debut in the back of the ambulance half way to Akureyri. He then spent the rest of the trip annoying his parents with whines of “are we there yet?” Just kidding. Babies can’t talk.
