Average Price of Groceries Up 10 ISK

Published June 15, 2010

According to a price survey conducted by television station Stöð 2, the average price of a trip to the grocery store has gone up by 10 ISK.
The survey notes that while some goods have increased in price, many have in fact decreased.
The previous survey was conducted in August 2009, which compared prices to the survey before that, in January 2008. As might be expected, the previous survey showed a tremendous increase in the price of food – an increase of over 10% in most cases, with some goods reaching over 70%.
Today, many meats cost the same as they did last August, and dairy products have decreased in price. The greatest increase overall has been with cucumbers, which saw a 9% increase.
Overall, prices between now and last August have changed very little, with the average showing a cost increase of 10 ISK, which even in these times isn’t exactly a scarce sum of money.
