From Iceland — Ash Cloud Comes To Reykjavík

Ash Cloud Comes To Reykjavík

Published May 21, 2012

Volcanic ash is making its way over the capital area, and will likely make conditions overcast and lower the air quality for the next few days.
According to Morgunblaðið, the ash is being carried by dry winds from the plains east of the mountains east of Reykjavík, moving westward and southward.
The weather office predicts, however, that there will be rainfall across south and east Iceland, which should make air quality conditions more bearable.
Air quality right now is slightly poor. The average amount of dust considered the “healthy limit” in the air is 50 µg/m3. However, the proportion was 57.5 µg/m3 at 13:00, and up to about 140 µg/m3 at midnight last night.
Those with lung conditions are advised to stay indoors until the rain passes through the area, which should happen in the next day or so.
