Anti-Vax Group Forms In Iceland

Published November 8, 2013

A group calling for “medical freedom” has been established in Iceland, and one doctor has compared them to a “cult”.
DV reports that the group in question, Health Freedom Iceland (Heilsufrelsi Íslands), recently held an introductory meeting at Grand Hótel. They claim to be fighting for the right of individuals to use “natural medicine, supplements, homeopathy” and other unconventional treatments as a part of what they call “medical freedom”.
Anna Katrín Ottesen, one of the spokespeople for the group, told reporters that they also have their doubts about vaccinations. Anna claims they only work for a short time, and that some of them are even unnecessary.
General practitioner Vilhjálmur Ari Arason expressed a less than favourable opinion of the group.
“This is just a horrible example,” he told reporters. “This was formed by people who are against vaccinations. It’s some kind of cult.”
Anna dismissed the criticism, saying, “This is a necessary organisation. Why are there so many diseases? Why have some diseases increased by over 400%? What is going on?”
