About Half of Icelanders Immune to Swine Flu

Published February 8, 2010

About half the population of Iceland is now immune to H1N1, also known as swine flu.
In total, about 130,000 Icelanders have been vaccinated against the virus. At the same time, it is estimated that up to 60,000 Icelanders caught the bug, which also renders them immune.
A statement from the national health also says that an aggressive vaccination program prevented the illness from having more serious consequences. In all, about 100 people went to the emergency room with swine flu symptoms, 10 had to be hospitalized, and one person passed away due to the flu.
The statement concludes that there is more than enough vaccine to go around. People are encouraged to take the shot, rather than wait to get sick.
