Far, far away from home, Odysseus finds his ship wandering towards a smoky bay in Iceland. Homer’s epic is the inspiration for an exhibition at Hafnarhús depicting how “…men get captivated by delusions in life and are led astray, like Odysseus was,” to quote the New Painting artist Daði Guðbjörnsson. His works blend of colour and tone to create surreal delusions and take the viewer on a thrill ride into inner psychological turmoil. Daði’s works are abstract, but purposeful, and his take on the ancient Greek epic offers a refreshing change of pace from more linear, direct-from-text analyses of the familiar Homer narrative.

The exhibit is divided into two time periods, one from 1998 to 2008 and another covering the work he has been doing in the last three years, which shows his transition from spontaneous presentation to great refinement. They also appropriately detail the progression of an artist’s portrayal of a static theme. Definitely a sight to see and event not to miss!
